Education in Faith
St Clare's Primary School Thomastown West
Our vision at St Clare’s celebrates our Catholic identity and is underpinned by the model set for us by our patron Saint Clare of Assisi, and in the teachings passed on to us by Jesus Christ. At St Clare’s, we are committed to connecting our faith with our daily life and school culture, as we strive to nurture and develop the cognitive, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of our learners.
‘Go confidently because the Lord has created you with a tender heart’ - St Clare
At St Clare’s Catholic school, we celebrate our cultural and religious diversity. We respect and honour that each person is sacred and that each member of our school is loved by God. Our community is invited to embrace our Catholic Tradition with their own life story.
Liturgies
Whole school liturgies are regularly celebrated in our school calendar. Each week, year levels join our parish community at Mass, sharing faith experiences. Holy Days are observed and liturgical seasons are followed. Special liturgies include Beginning of School Year Mass, Grandparents’ Day, Family Week and End of Year Thanksgiving.
The Story of St Clare
Sacraments
The sacraments are an important part of our faith story and the life of our Church. As a learning community, we prepare children to receive their Sacraments in the Catholic tradition each year. This visible and enriching part of our spiritual lives is nurtured and developed through:
-
The Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation) - a rite of healing
-
The Sacrament of Eucharist - First Holy Communion
-
The Sacrament of Confirmation - a rite of commitment to the Catholic Faith
In Year 3, candidates receive the Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation) and in Year 4 First Holy Communion. In Year 6, candidates receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Preparation for the Sacraments may include:
-
Sacramental Night of Blessing- A special liturgy is shared with families of children receiving the Sacraments of Communion and Confirmation
-
Religious Education classes, which emphasise learning about the Sacraments
-
Retreat Day- A day is set aside for children to have a deeper learning experience about the Sacraments
-
Parent formation evening - Families are invited to engage in learning about the Sacraments
-
Presentation to the Parish - Over a weekend, families present their child to the Parish for a blessing
-
Workshop- The Sacramental Mass is presented for children to practice and final reminders
